• Maintains the correct water balance
The water is placed in the outer pot at an 1 1/2 inch depth and as the soil around the African Violet becomes dry, the water permeates through the non-glazed insert at a steady rate. Only enough water permeates through so that the soil is neither too wet or too dry.

• Reduces the chance of leaf spotting
If too cold water is poured on the plant it can cause the leaves to spot which detracts from the beauty of the African Violet. With the self-watering planter the water is placed into the outer pot. As the water permeates through the insert and the soil, the water’s temperature becomes that of the soil. Also the water never touches the leaves.

• Reduces the chance of drainage problem
When watering from the top, the soil can become saturated and the excess water must be allow to drain from the bottom. With our self-watering planter, water is absorbed from the bottom up and just the right amount of water will be in the soil at any time.

• Reduces the chance of root rot
Root rot is caused by overwatering the African Violet. With Country Livin’ Creations’ self-water pot, overwatering cannot happen. By placing only 1 1/2 inch of water in the outer pot, only the right amount of water will permeate through the unglazed ceramic insert.

• Reduces the chance of petiole rot
Petiole rot is caused by adding the fertilizer around the plant. As the water evaporates, the fertilizer crystallizes around the edge of the pot. The crystallized fertilizer causes the petiole to rot. With our self-watering planter, the fertilizer is added to the water and the water is placed in the outer pot thereby the fertilizer cannot crystallize around the plant.
